ABB has upgraded the AquaMaster electromagnetic water flow meter with an increased range of power supply options, making it ideal for water billing applications almost anywhere. Based on ABB’s AquaMaster Explorer transmitter, the AquaMaster 3 offers both main and battery power options, as well as an all-new renewable power version that can draw power from solar or wind energy sources. The AquaMaster 3 Renewable Energy Edition marks a continuation of the high reliability, accuracy and innovation achieved by its predecessors. A simple DC (6-21V) connection can be connected to as small as a 5W solar panel or a 60W equivalent wind supply. When combined with ultracapacitor energy storage technology, this feature completely eliminates the need for mains or battery power, making AquaMaster 3 suitable for use in even the most remote locations. By using electrostatic energy storage, supercapacitors offer a reliable alternative to conventional battery technology. Unlike batteries, which undergo chemical reactions whenever energy is stored or released, supercapacitors can withstand thousands of charge cycles without degradation. In mains power mode, SuperCap technology maintains continuous measurement and alarm reporting via SMS for up to 7 days in the event of a power outage. For renewable energy models, this time can be extended to three weeks, and the ultracapacitor can also power the meter at night. One development in the battery-only version of the AquaMaster 3 is the addition of a lithium battery option, providing extended operating life of up to 10 years in standard applications and improved performance in harsh applications above 45°c. In the case of a single battery, the ultracapacitor can replace the battery without losing the recorder contents. The addition of this new technology is part of the continuous development of the AquaMaster flow meter since it was first introduced in 1999. Since then, the series has been upgraded to a number of world firsts, including GSM/SMS technology, which uses the same technology as mobile phones to provide access to real-time data via a PC or via SMS messages sent to mobile phones
