Eaton’s XC300 modular PLC enables machine and system manufacturers to bring modern automation concepts to life – especially when combined with XN300 I/O systems and XV300 touch screens. Due to its various interfaces, the controller is suitable for a range of applications as a general-purpose data node. Integrated OPC servers support standardized data transfer in M2M communications, support integration into automation architectures, and create an easy path to Industry 4.0.

Linux-based systems are programmed using CODESYS 3 and support many common interfaces and fieldbus protocols, from CANopen, easyNet, and Modbus RTU via EtherCAT, Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, all the way to OPC UA/Scada. The controller allows three different Ethernet operations based on different network addresses. For example, separate networks can be established for mobile, M2M and SCADA communications. In this way, the security and performance aspects can best match the network. The controller also provides its own power feeders through four I/O channels.

The integrated web server supports CODESYS 3 visualization and device management with HTML5 capabilities for display on smartphones and tablet devices. All XC and XV devices support established programs and libraries. They can be copied to other devices for mass production using micro SD cards or USB sticks.

Eaton employs current communications and security standards to protect equipment and systems from unauthorized access. The XC300 supports cryptographic authentication mechanisms (TLS/IPSec) and certificate-based authorization.

Like the XN300 I/O system, the XC300 controller clamps firmly onto the DIN rail. An XC300 can control up to 32 XN300 extension modules.
