D20 The system is initialized from BootROM. It checks and validates the contents of the BootROM, and then initializes the system hardware and various I/O devices. If any errors or defects are found in the memory, the system either shuts down to a small running state or shuts down completely in the event of a serious defect. After running the initial diagnostic routine, the startup code downloads the operating system code into RAM for faster access. From this point on, all resident firmware and provided custom applications run from 32-bit wide RAM or 32-bit wide flash memory. System and application databases are stored in NVRAM. The D20 uses two communication device drivers: • Eight-port serial I/O chips that manage input and output through eight serial ports. HDLC controller chip (dual port), which forms part of the high-speed D.20 link between the D20ME and D20 I/O peripherals. 68K Monitor features The monitor features include debugging tools that can be accessed remotely from a PC, VT100 terminal with keyboard, or via telnet.
