The lower part of the mill frame must have a flat surface large enough to allow the mounting of a load cell under the lower support roll bearing. The advantage of this arrangement is that special attention to the load cell is not required during roll change. See also the quote on the right for load cell kits. The toroidal load cell between the milling nut and the mill frame allows measurement even when there is insufficient space under the milling screw and under the lower support roll bearing. This arrangement also has the advantage that there is no need to pay special attention to the load cell when changing the roll, and it is well protected. The well-known Pressductor® technology is a measurement principle based on the magnetoelastic effect – the magnetic properties of a material are affected by the mechanical forces applied to it. Because these signals do not depend on physical motion or deformation, load sensors combine sensitivity with superior overload tolerance and have few built-in limits on the number of load cycles.
