The GE Fanuc IC693CHS397 is a 5-slot modular CPU baseboard. To operate the baseboard, the user must insert the power module into the left slot. The slot is unique in size and type and only supports power modules. The slot has no number. In slot 1, a CPU or special option module must be installed. Similar to Slot 2, this slot is unique in size and type in that it can only support CPU modules or special option modules, such as the FIP Remote I/O Scanner (IC693BEM330). Slot 1 is labeled CPU/1.
For all slots numbered 2 and above, the user can install optional modules or I/O modules. These slots have a unique size and type, so they will support either one. Modular CPU baseboards support expansion and remote baseboards. Therefore, there is a female expansion connector at the right end of the baseplate. It is a 25-pin D-type that allows users to connect to extensions or remote substrates.
If any additional features are required, the user can satisfy them. This is because cpus are modular. This allows users to replace or change it to a different type. A maximum of one CPU substrate can be used for any one system. Any additional substrates must be extended or remote substrates. By default, modular CPU baseboards, such as IC693CHS397, are always assigned rack number 0.
