December 15, 2015 – AAEON introduces the ETX-A55E CPU module. Powered by AMD’s G-Series APUs, the module is designed to extend the life of legacy hardware by supporting the three-decade-old Industry Standard Architecture (ISA), which is still favored by most industrial computer users for its durability and ease of maintenance. The chipset not only supports ISA, but also integrates direct memory access (DMA) functionality, eliminating the need for additional drivers or modification of application code, thus completing ISA support.
While retaining older components, new features were introduced, including expanded memory support for up to 8 GB of DDR3L memory, a new processor offering different performance levels depending on the SKU, enhanced display resolution, and an improved audio engine. These features make the module ideal for media-intensive applications such as gaming and kiosk machines. Lifetime support until 2021 is also available for some SKUs. The ETX-A55E supports a wider range of operating systems, from Windows to Linux, including both traditional and embedded computer specific operating systems.
