Version 1.2 of the xCoupler Enterprise transaction module, developed online, now provides a bidirectional interface between Allen-Bradley control logix PLC and the IBM WebSphere MQ system for simple two-layer communication. This new feature allows users to seamlessly exchange data from shop floor equipment connected to ControlLogix, such as sensors, robots, RFID controllers, and more. , using WebSphere MQ enterprise messaging system. This new version enables business users to monitor specific shop floor equipment data and be notified of any alerts. The added bi-directional capability enables manufacturers to send messages to shop floor equipment for activities such as batch recipes, production orders, inventory adjustments, and other changes to manufacturing or distribution orders. The xCoupler module eliminates the cost, complexity, and security issues common to PC-based or HMI-based custom middleware software configurations used to transfer data from factory floor equipment to enterprise systems. These modules are simply embedded in the ControlLogix PLCs’ backboard to exchange device data with the WebSphere MQ system in their native language. The module’s workbench configuration tool has easy-to-use drag-and-drop operations for setting parameters between ControlLogix-connected devices and WebSphere MQ, requiring no special programming skills and making setup simple. It also eliminates the need for future enterprise drivers and upgrade maintenance programming. These modules also eliminate security, virus, and data integrity issues associated with three-tier systems connected to an enterprise’s factory floor PC operations. The operating system of the xCoupler module is virtually immune to security issues and virus attacks, and provides excellent data accuracy and timeliness.
