From deployment to practice, biomass energy shoulders the banner of zero carbon heating
The construction of zero carbon parks has entered the stage of comprehensive and systematic deployment. The Notice specifies that the park should actively utilize thermal energy resources such as biomass energy, nuclear energy, solar thermal energy, geothermal energy, and industrial waste heat to achieve a clean and low-carbon heating system. Explore alternative fossil fuels and raw materials such as hydrogen and biomass.
Shi Lishan, Vice President of the China Association for the Promotion of Industrial Development and former Deputy Director of the New Energy and Renewable Energy Department of the National Energy Administration, stated that as the core supply mode of green heat energy, biomass energy has become the most realistic and effective path to achieve low-carbon energy transformation.
Shi Lishan believes that low-carbon thermal energy is the key to energy transformation, accounting for over 50% of end consumption. As a concentration of industrial energy consumption, zero carbon parks are the main battlefield for green heating. We need to strengthen top-level design, implement policies based on the classification of park types, coordinate resources such as biomass, geothermal, electric heating, and industrial waste heat, build a multi energy complementary clean heating system, and systematically promote the energy transformation of the park.
We also need to innovate the institutional system, attach great importance to thermal storage technology, strengthen international cooperation, and promote China’s technology, equipment, and standards to go global, “Shi Lishan emphasized.
Guo Zhi, Vice Chairman of the China Energy Research Association and former Chief Economist of the National Energy Administration, stated that the park’s thermal energy system should be used as the foundation to accelerate the construction of a traceable biomass fuel supply chain and a standardized certification system. Market mechanisms and tools should be used to promote the implementation of biomass clean heating on a larger scale and in a more efficient and replicable manner.
To promote the development of green thermal energy in the system, Guo Zhi proposed four major measures: firstly, to strengthen the foundation of the intelligent heating network and build a multi energy collaborative system. The second is to create a standardized and traceable fuel supply system. The third is to improve market policy coordination, innovate business models and carbon value realization mechanisms. The fourth is to carry out demonstration and promotion, promote technological modularization and mutual recognition of standards, and enhance international influence.
Cracking these challenges requires the collective wisdom of all parties to explore feasible paths. Zhen Jianqiao, President of the Hubei New Energy Development Promotion Association, believes that innovation and industrialization of green heat technology are the core driving force of the energy consumption revolution, and the standardization and large-scale construction of biofuel supply systems are important guarantees for achieving stable supply of green heat energy.
Industrial development, standards come first. In the opinion of Zhao Lei, an engineer from the Resource and Environment Research Branch of the China National Institute of Standardization, standardization is the core link that connects the last mile of policy implementation, and is necessary for enterprises to carry out practical implementation. He stated that in the construction of the zero carbon park energy system, it is necessary to encourage the park to increase the proportion of direct supply of renewable energy, strengthen the utilization of waste heat and energy, and actively guide enterprises to carry out green and low-carbon production construction.
Li He, Dean of the Energy and Environmental Engineering Institute of China Machinery First Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., shared the “Green Heat Source Construction Plan for Zero Carbon Parks” and stated that biomass energy, as an important green heat source for zero carbon parks, mainly achieves heating and power generation through technological paths such as direct combustion, gasification, and anaerobic fermentation. However, there are currently challenges such as inefficient investment in equipment, fluctuations in fuel prices, and differences in policy awareness. We should focus on resource conditions, emphasize long-term operation, avoid short-term behavior, and achieve efficient and low-carbon value of biomass energy through professional management and refined operation.
One point deployment, nine points implementation. During the conference, a reporter from China Industry News walked into the Zhuankou Food Industry Park in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone. As a benchmark case for the park’s green and low-carbon transformation, the Wuhan Lanying Kangshifu Food Industry Park Clean Central Heating Project of Wuhan Guanggu Blue Flame New Energy Co., Ltd. replaced the original scattered coal-fired boilers with a centralized heating system mainly powered by biomass formed fuel, providing stable and clean industrial steam for multiple large energy consuming enterprises.
According to the staff of Guanggu Blue Flame, the project currently has a thermal efficiency of up to 91%, high intelligence, clean and environmentally friendly emissions. Compared with natural gas boilers, it can save users about 13 million yuan in energy costs annually, replace 91000 tons of standard coal annually, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 213000 tons annually.
